New Friends of the Oakland Public Library

The New Friends of the Oakland Public Library exists to promote knowledge and interest in the functions, resources, services and needs of the library. This vital civic association assists in developing programs and providing materials to extend and improve the library’s resources.

Our endeavors have raised  thousands of dollars to benefit the community through the library’s outreach. Every year we help the library offer many popular programs and fundraisers. We are constantly exploring new ways to help the Oakland Public Library fulfill its mission.  We welcome ideas and assistance from all who share our goals. In an effort to minimize meetings for busy people, The New Friends convene according to the dictates of ongoing projects rather than on fixed dates. We will post general meeting dates on the website; you may contact the library for details. Our annual general membership meetings are held in November. All are welcome to join us.

We believe that Oakland residents are the library's greatest resource, and we hope everyone will want to become a stakeholder in a community resource that offers so much for so many.
