October Special Events at the Oakland Public Library

Preschool Story Time with Ms. Alex will be held on Tuesdays at 11:00 am during the month of October. Oakland children, ages 2 & up, will be singing along to favorite songs and listening to stories. The Story Time will be held upstairs in the Library’s Story Tower. Registration is not required.

Tots Library Club, a program designed for the youngest library users, birth to 2-yrs.-old, and their caregivers, will be held on the following Thursdays in October: October 1st, October 8th, October 22nd, and October 29th from 10:30 to 11:00 am. Toys (yours or ours) will be available for a brief meet-and-greet from 10:30 to 10:45 am. A short segment of nursery rhymes, fingerplays, and songs will follow. The program will be held upstairs in the Library’s Story Tower. Registration is not required.

Terrific Two’s & Three’s! is a Story Time for two to three-yr.-olds, and their caregivers. The program will be held on the following Fridays in October: October 2nd, October 16th, and October 30th at 11:00 am upstairs in the Library’s Story Tower. Younger children will enjoy stories, songs, and fingerplays. Registration is not required.

October Craft Bags (to go) will be available for pick-up beginning Wednesday, October 7th. Oakland children of all ages may come into the Children’s Dept. to pick up a craft bag. One craft bag per child, please. Registration is not required.

Certified Yoga Instructor, Jaymeen Trivedi, will offer Children’s Yoga on the following Saturdays in October: October 3rd, October 10th, and October 17th from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Oakland children, ages 5 to 11, are invited to join Mr. Jaymeen for these special yoga sessions. The program will be held downstairs in the Library’s Meeting Room. Please bring a mat. Registration is required, and is now being taken.

Ms. Christina and her wonderful “Jiggly Wiggly” music program will be held on the following Fridays: Friday, October 9th and Friday, November 13th. The program will be held from 11:00 to 11:45 am downstairs in the Library’s Meeting Room. Oakland children, ages 2 & up, and their caregivers, will enjoy music and movement activities. Registration is required for EACH session. Registration is now being taken for the October 9th session, and begins Wednesday, October 28th for the November 13th session. EACH child, including siblings, must be registered.

Back by popular demand! Oakland children, ages 4 & up, are invited to join us for a Spook-Tacular Halloween Celebration on Tuesday, October 20th from 6:00 to 6:45 pm. Mad Science will present a series of spooky, interactive science experiments, such 

as freaky fog, floating eyeballs, melting witches, and creepy crawlers! The program will be held upstairs on the Library’s stage. Registration is required for this special Halloween Science show, and is now being taken.

Oakland children, ages 2 & up, and their caregivers, are invited to a “Toddler Dance Party” with Ms. Joyce on Friday, October 23rd from 11:00 to 11:40 am. The program will be held downstairs in the Library’s Meeting Room. The program offers singing, stretching, and dance activities. Registration is required, and begins Wednesday, October 7th for this session. EACH child, including siblings, must be registered.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH from noon to 2:00 pm: TRUCK DAY!!! The Oakland Public Library will host the eleventh annual “Truck Day” in the Library’s Municipal Parking Lot. Oakland’s own DPW, Fire Dept., First Aid Squad, and Police Dept. will bring vehicles to the event. This is an opportunity for an up-close-and-personal look at vehicles seen around our community. There will be ample opportunity for children to explore each vehicle! “Truck Day” is a family program, and children of all ages are invited to attend. The celebration will take place RAIN OR SHINE! Refreshments & treats will be available. Registration is not required. This program is FREE OF CHARGE!
