SAT Crash Course
Saturday, March 11th from 10:00-1:00 PM
The New Friends of the Oakland Public Library in partnership with Library Lab are thrilled to present a FREE SAT CRASH COURSE from 10am-1pm on Saturday, March 11 at the Oakland Public Library. In 3 hours, this class will cover the key concepts needed to score hundreds of points higher on your next SAT.Learn to:
•Read the test faster and more effectively
•Decode the more difficult math problems into simple steps
•Spot the wrong answer choices
•learn to think like the test taker
The course will be taught by Rick Bolton, Managing Partner of LibraryLab and former CEO of TestU and EVP of PrepMe. Both companies have been top SAT test prep companies for the last decade. Rick has conducted hundreds of SAT workshops and his doctoral research explores many of the factors that determine success on standardized tests. Also, Rick worked for more than 7 years as a SAT, LSAT, GMAT, and GRE instructor for Kaplan.
Rick is scheduled to complete his doctorate in Educational Leadership this spring, holds a MBA from Babson College and a B.A. in Economics from Michigan State.

STEM Initiative - Six Week Coding Class
Wednesdays: February 22-March 29 from 3:30-4:30 PM
The Oakland Public Library is offering a FREE coding class for children grades 4-6. The class will be held every Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 pm and will last 6 weeks. This class is open to Oakland residents ONLY. PLEASE NOTE: YOU MAY REGISTER YOUR CHILD ONLINE. HOWEVER, A REFUNDABLE $20 DEPOSIT IS REQUIRED TO SECURE YOUR CHILD'S SPACE IN THE CLASS. THIS WILL BE REFUNDED AT THE END OF THE COURSE PROVIDED YOUR CHILD HAS ATTENDED AT LEAST 5/6 SESSIONS. OTHERWISE THE $20 WILL BE RETAINED BY THE LIBRARY.
Laptops are provided for the students and they do not need to bring anything along. The class has 15 seats available and we will keep a waiting list. Please note that if your child misses the first class his or her space will be given to another student and he or she will be removed from the list and the deposit will be lost.
There will be free comics (Thank you Gotham Underground), snacks, and a discussion about what you like to read and why!
