CHILDREN DEPARTMENT'S MONTHLY CALENDAR

 

hh February Special Events at the Oakland Public Library (Children’s Dept.)

     Paint ‘n Sip is a special program for budding Oakland artists, ages 4 & up. The art session will be held Thursday, February 6th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Minimal guidance will be offered for the project, and children will add their own creative juices to complete their work! Something to sip will be provided. Registration is required, and is now being taken.

     “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” is an opportunity for Oakland children, ages 5 & up, to read to a very lovable dog. Rosie, and her “mom”, Susan, will visit the Library on Saturday, February 8th from 11:00 to 11:30 am. Halle, and her “mom”, Marcia, will visit the Library on Thursday, February 27th from 5:30 to 6:00 pm. Rosie and Halle are both registered therapy dogs with Therapy Dogs International. Each child will have about ten minutes to read a favorite story to the dogs. Registration is now being taken.

     Enjoy some stories, followed by sensory activities on Tuesday, February 11th and Tuesday, February 25th from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Story Time and Sensory Fun allows plenty of opportunity for squishing, molding & splashing for Oakland children, ages 2 & up, and their caregivers! Registration is not required.

     The Oakland Garden Club will visit the Library on Thursday, February 13th from 4:00 to 4:45 pm. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, will make a Valentine (or two) for that special someone. Examples of the crafts are on display at the reference desk in the Children’s Dept. Registration is required and is now being taken.

     Oakland children, ages two to five, and their caregivers will have a bonus Valentine’s Day on Saturday, February 15th from 10:30 to 11:30 am at the Library. An extra special Valentine Story Time & Craft will be offered. Registration is not required.

     Cabinets in the Children’s Dept. are brimming with crafts that have been enjoyed for a variety of programs! A potpourri of projects will be set up for our “Pop-Up” Craft on Thursday, February 20th from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. Oakland children of all ages are invited to attend. The surprise crafts will be on a first-come-first-serve basis, as supplies of a particular craft may be limited. Registration is not required.

       Miss Valerie, and her wonderful “Jiggly Wiggly” music program, will visit the Oakland Public Library on Friday, February 28th from 10:30 to 11:15 am. Oakland children, ages 2 & up, and their caregivers, will enjoy music and movement activities. The program will be held downstairs in the Library’s meeting room. Registration is not required.

March Special Events at the Oakland Public Library (Children’s Dept.)

     Enjoy some stories, followed by sensory activities on Tuesday, March 3rd and Tuesday, March 24th from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Story Time and Sensory Fun allows plenty of opportunity for squishing, molding & splashing for Oakland children, ages 2 & up, and their caregivers! Registration is not required.

     Instructor, Marisol Kozlovski, will offer an Introduction to Knitting Class at the Oakland Public Library in March. This four-part session will be held on Thursdays, March 5th, March 12th, March 19th, and March 26th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Oakland students, grade 4 and up, are invited to attend. Participants will be making a “Knit Kit” during the March 5th session, and a list of supplies can be picked up in the Children’s Dept. The following sessions will cover the basics of knitting. Registration is required, and is now being taken.

Registration is not required.

     A potpourri of projects will be set up for a “Pop-Up” Craft on Thursday, March 26th from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. Oakland children of all ages are welcome to attend.
