October 2022 Calendar

   October Craft Bags (to go) will be available for pick-up beginning Wednesday, October 5th. Oakland children of all ages may come into the Children’s Dept. OR call ahead for curbside pick-up for this small craft. One craft bag per child, please. Supplies are limited, and crafts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration is not required.

     Tots Library Club, a program designed for the youngest library users, birth to 2-yrs.-old, and their caregivers, returns to the Children’s Dept. for its Fall Session. The program will be held on the following Thursdays in October: October 6th, October 20th, and October 27th from 10:30 to 11:00 am in the Library’s Story Tower. Each session begins with a brief meet-and-greet, with toys (yours or ours) available from 10:30 to 10:45 am, followed by a short segment of nursery rhymes, fingerplays, and songs. Registration is not required.

     Ms. Christina and her wonderful “Jiggly Wiggly” music program will be held Friday, October 7th from 11:00 to 11:45 am. The program will be held outside on the Library’s lawn. (In the event of inclement weather, “Jiggly Wiggly” will be moved inside.) Oakland children, ages 2 & up, and their caregivers, will enjoy music and movement activities. Registration is required and is now being taken for the October 7th program. (***Registration begins Wednesday, October 19th for the Friday, November 4th session of “Jiggly Wiggly”.)

     Ms. Barbara will offer Preschool Story Time on Tuesday, October 11th AND Tuesday, October 25th at 11:00 am. Oakland children, ages 2 to 5, will be singing along to favorite songs and listening to stories. The story time will be held in the Library’s Story Tower. Registration is not required.

   Terrific Two’s & Three’s! is a story time for two to three-year-olds and their caregivers. Join us on the following Fridays in October: October 14th, October 21st, and October 28th. The program will be held at 11:00 am downstairs in the Library’s Meeting Room. Younger children will enjoy stories, songs and fingerplays. Registration is not required.

     The Children’s Dept. welcomes Miss Fran and her “Musical Morning” program on Tuesday, October 18th at 11:00 am. Oakland children, ages 3 & up, will be singing along with Miss Fran and her favorite instrument, the guitar! Lots of audience participation for all! The program will be held outside on the Library’s lawn. (In the event of inclement weather, “Musical Morning” will be moved inside.) Registration is required, and begins Wednesday, October 5th. Each child, including siblings, must be registered.

     PLEASE SAVE THE DATE!!! The Oakland Public Library will host the seventh annual “TRUCK DAY” in the Library’s Municipal Parking Lot on Saturday, November 5th from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm. Oakland’s own DPW, Fire Dept., First Aid Squad, and Police Dept. will bring vehicles to the event. This is an opportunity for an up-close-and-personal look at vehicles seen around our community. There will be ample opportunity for children to explore each vehicle! “Truck Day” is a family program and children of all ages are invited to attend. The celebration will take place RAIN OR SHINE! Refreshments & treats will be offered by the Oakland Public Events Committee. Registration is not required. This program is FREE OF CHARGE!
