Summer Thursdays Special Events That Rock! 3:45-4:30PM

Merit stickers and prizes will be awarded all summer long to Summer Reading Club members. Pre-readers and readers will be given weekly prizes as they complete their literacy   challenges. All Oakland families will be invited to the "Sharks Rock: The Magic of Sharks 2" show presented by master magician, Steve Woyce, on Tuesday, August 14th. Juice and cookies will be served. 

Thank you to the New Friends of the Oakland Public Library for their generous support of the OPL Summer Reading Clubs.

magnetsWorld of Magnets Science Workshop
Tuesday, July 24th from 3:45-4:30 PM

Do you ever think about magnets? The world of magnets and magnetism will be explored in a science workshop on Tuesday, July 24th from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Pat Turnier Craft Room. Oakland children, ages 6 & up, are invited to attend. Each participant will be making a magnet. Registration insures each participant will have the materials needed for the project. Space is limited.

There’s a pony in the Library!  On Monday, July 30th from 5:15 to 6:00 pm, a therapy pony will be visiting the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library.  Oakland children, ages 3 & up, are invited to attend.  Each child will have an opportunity to meet the pony, pet it, and ask questions about our very special visitor.

Touch the Music will present “What is Music?” on Thursday, August 2nd from 3:45 to 4:30 pm for Oakland children, ages 4 & up. (Children under the age of seven must be accompanied by an adult.) Magician and family entertainer, Steve Woyce, returns with his all-new 2018 Summer Show, “Sharks Rock: The Magic of Sharks 2” on Tuesday, August 14th from 10:00 to 10:45 am AND 11:00 to 11:45 am in the Fellowship Hall of the Ponds Reformed Church. This entertaining and educational show will feature comedy magic, a boat-load of audience participation, and fun shark facts rolled into an unforgettable time for the whole family!  The Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library will host the Sixteenth Annual Kindergarten Kickoff on Wednesday, August 29th in the Library.  This is an opportunity for those children entering schools in Oakland to meet their classmates prior to the first day of school.  Meeting times are as follows:  Manito (10:00 to 11:00 am), Heights (11:30 am to 12:30 pm), and Dogwood Hill (1:00 to 2:00 pm).  A special story time and gift-for-teacher craft is planned.  (All kindergartners are asked to bring a wallet-sized photo of themselves for their teacher craft.)  Registration begins Tuesday, August 7thPlease register by phone at 201-337-3742, in person or online by Clicking Here.

UNEXPIRED FOOD FOR FINES at the Oakland Public Library

to benefit Ponds Reformed Church Food Pantry
 

Oakland residents- take care of that Oakland Library fine and do a good deed at the same time, because YOU ROCK! Donate, UNEXPIRED food items to OPL's Food for Fines collection and you'll be forgiven $1.00 in overdue fines for every item you bring in. Canned and boxed non-expired donations are welcome to benefit Ponds Church Food Pantry. Help others and help yourself with every donation.

Valid only for materials checked out from the Oakland Public Library collection. Not valid for lost or damaged items. Food for Fines will be valid only with UNEXPIRED items. The Pantry is looking for: PASTA, CEREAL, CANNED TOMATOES, TOMATO SAUCE, CANNED FRUIT, DRY BLACK BEANS, CONDIMENTS, COFFEE, TEA, EVAPORATED MILK, JAMS, JELLIES, BOTTLED FRUIT JUICE, MAC & CHEESE, SOUPS, RICE, CANNED BEANS, PEANUT BUTTER.
